Blog Hopping

I've described blog hopping as like bar hopping without the booze, but that's not entirely accurate. Sure you go somewhere, stay awhile, get bored and move on. But that doesn't explain the chain reaction nature of blog hopping. You're reading a blog and it mentions a site or maybe another blog. You go there, you read for a bit, see another mention and move on. And on. And on. It's highly addictive.

Even the Washington Post has blogs. That's where I saw this reference to a site that has conversations overheard on New York City streets. How bizarre is that? If you click the link, be warned! New Yorkers don't seem to have many G-rated conversations. Or even PG-13. Mostly R and NC-17.

I checked the About link and it turns out the site is a tie-in to a book of the same name. Go figure!

I am very much amused by overheardnyc. The college version at overheardedu lacks the snappy headlines, but is sometimes also amusing.

Amazing! The college ones seem to be much cleaner. I never would have guessed college students had less pottier mouths than the general NYC population.

When I was in college, I happened to observe a brief moment of someone else's life. I was walking in front of my all-women dorm where a row of cars waited, a guy behind each wheel. A young woman got into a car. The guy kissed her and said something. She smiled a big happy smile, opened her purse, and took out a container of birth control pills.

If you like Dilbert, there's also Overheard in the Office.

There are many new ones too, like Overheard at the Beach, in London etc.

It's not a tie-in to a book. It's more like the other way around, ie the book is a tie-in to the blog.

Thanks for pointing those sites out! Londoners sound at least slightly more refined than New Yorkers.
