Palm reading?

I have seen the future in the palm of my hand. I have had a Kindle for a week now, and I have already read several books on it. The screen is truly wonderful. It doesn't wear my eyes out, and in good light I don't even need the larger font settings. Buying books on this thing is dangerously easy. The "try a sample" feature is wonderful, especially if you read books in a series, like mysteries, and you can't remember if you read that book before! It's also useful if a book sounds good but it's by an author you've never read before and you want to see if you like their writing. My only complaint is that some books aren't available in Kindle format yet, but I expect that will be less of a problem over time. And the Kindle is so portable that I can carry it in my purse and have it handy for when I have to wait at the bank, the doctor's office, the dentist's, or when my husband runs into the store to get his dry cleaning.

One Kindle, with $50 discount (thank you Oprah Winfrey!). . . . . $309.00
11 Amazon books, some out of copyright . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 57.12
23 PDF/Word conversions (I am too lazy to copy them myself) . . . 2.30
Always having something good to read . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Priceless!

Ahhhh well. I guess I'll have to live vicariously though you until they come down in price enought for me to buy one.

BTW...is that a picture of one in your avy?

Hmm. What's an avy? The user pic for that entry is indeed an actual Kindle, if that's what you mean.

Sorry, yeah avy is short for avatar. I picked up that little habit from forums.

*squints*
wow, looks impressive.

I have a friend with a Sony e-reader. It's actually prettier looking, but I noticed it crashed on him when he tried to enlarge the fonts. On the Kindle that's dead easy. A lot of geeks have complained the Kindle is ugly compared to things like the iPod or the iPhone. But if this were an Apple product, I don't think I could just pop the back off to swap out a new battery whenever I wanted.

The fact that there is more than one company willing to put these out, validates that these may very well be the future of novels. To eliminate the printing process, and deliver the novel right to the reader, does save money. And I think in these hard economic times, that may happen.

Lol, I have a Kindle on my wish list on Facebook. :D
