Triple Play

Okay, here I am, a genre writer, quoting a (very famous) nonfiction writer about writing and he's quoting a professional basketball player. Supposedly, when David Halberstam was asked about being a writer, he quoted Julius Irving: ‘Being a professional is doing the things you love to do, on the days you don’t feel like doing them.’

It's interesting because not being a professional (yet) I focus on other aspects of writing. It always struck me that being unpublished was a bit like being always pregnant and never having the baby. You can tinker with a story as much as you want if it's not going anywhere. Being a pro means you have to stop, give birth, and move on to the next baby.

I would love to be in a position of having to write.
