Mr. Spock, you have the con!

Forget what you see on TV! Science fiction conventions are a lot of fun. For me, the convention season started with Balticon on Memorial Day weekend. Next up is Worldcon in Montreal this August. Then in October comes Capclave, which will be in Rockville again this year. The World Fantasy Convention will be in San Jose at the end of October, but that will, unfortunately be over my budget, which is a shame because it's my favorite convention.

If you're planning on going to Worldcon, be sure you take advantage of the Hugo voting packetafter June 30. that is sent to registered members. I'm looking forward to voting (which is open now) as soon as I finish reading the last of the nominated novels (I haven't read all of them all the way through, but I will have read some of all of them). I have read all the short stories, novelletes and novellas, so yay me!

And if you're planning on going to Capclave, register soon because the price goes up $10

I also had planned to pass on WFC because of finances, but then I volunteered to get booted off a flight home from the Stokers, lucky me, and got a coupon good for one round-trip ticket anywhere in the contiguous U.S. -- so I got the San Jose airfare free!

Now if I can only get kicked off my flights to Readercon, San Diego Comic-Con and the Montreal Worldcon!

Yes, but that's where you have the advantage! You don't have to be at the office on Monday morning, so you don't care if you come back a day later. Not all of us work in a virtual office.

Good Lord. Your life's a neverending social whirl :)

Me, I went to The Write Stuff conference in PA a few months ago, and hope to get to Philcon for a day in the Fall.

I used to go to Philcon until they moved the date. I loved it while it was near the Reading Terminal Market, but I understand they have since moved it to NJ!

I like writers conferences, too-- a very different experience. I went to the Pikes Peak Writers Conference several times (a very well run conference that a Colorado friend told me about), but once I got an agent, I felt like it wasn't worth the expense to keep going. I should really find a closer one!
