Have e-books finally made the leap?

GalleyCat today mentioned this brief article in Wired's Gadget Lab that reports "the Kindle is on fire." According to Jeff Bezos of Amazon, they can't make them fast enough to satisfy demand. Wired attributes this success to the inclusion of an MP3 player in the Kindle, and it's true that that would be a selling point for a lot of folks. They also noted that Amazon is trying to buy an audiobook company called Audible, which suggests they plan to widen the "e-book" definition to include audiobooks, allowing the Kindle to attack the market from two sides at once. Pretty cool, huh?

So, if you can read the screen, or listen to it talk or play music, have we got a Tricorder here? I guess it would have to tell you where the landing party was to be called a Tricorder.
