E-readers on the ramparts?

I noticed on the Guardian UK's book blog that Sony has been pushing their e-reader in Britain, in effect going head-to-head with Amazon's Kindle. Blogger John Sutherland didn't so much assess different e-reader models as ponder the concept of an e-reader in the first place—is it ready and able to create a revolution in the publishing industry? He says the revolution is coming soon, but it's not here yet and predicts that in 20 years we'll all have an e-reader. I liked his closing lines:

Marshall McLuhan should be living at this hour. But curb your impatience just a bit longer. Unless, that is, it's worth 200 quid to be the first person on your street with one.
